Charedi troops celebrate swearing-in with completion of a tractate of the Talmud. 'You have the privilege to sanctify G-D's name.'
New recruits in the Nahal Charedi battalion held a "siyum," the ceremony held upon finishing the study of a tractate of the Babylonian Talmud, at their swearing-in ceremony this past Thursday.
The festive ceremony marking the completion of the tractate was held prior to the swearing-in at the Kotel Wall. Company Commander Captain Dovid Taier read the hadran (special prayer said upon completing a part of the Talmud), along with Kfir Brigade Training Base Commander Lieutenant Colonel Ori Levi, who commanded the Nahal Charedi battalion from July 2014 until September 2016.

"Our soldiers should know how to combine protecting the Jewish people and Torah learning," said Taier. "This is the essence of this battalion. It was important to use to finish a tractate on the day of our swearing in ceremony."
Rabbi Dovid Fuchs, a Rabbi on the Netzach Yehudah NGO that assists Charedi soldiers throughout their service, told the recruits" "You have the privilege to sanctify G-D's name."
Nahal Charedi, also known as Netzach Yehuda, is a battalion in the Kfir Brigade that enables Charedi soldiers to serve in the IDF. Woman are forbidden on base, and soldiers receive special food that conforms to a more striingent standard of Jewish dietary laws than is necessary to keep kosher halakhically.
