Jerusalem, Israel - July 29, 2017 - The Western Wall tunnels have become a regular stop for visitors to Yerushalayim. More history is exposed, to see and experience at the ancient site of the Beis HaMikdash, on a daily basis.
A new attraction of a virtual tour, with headsets and special goggles helps one to "see" how the Beis HaMikdash looked and operated in days of old, and is good preparation for the walking tour.
Each conquer of Yerushalayim leveled the city and built on top of the rubble. Until the Old City of Yerushalayim fell in 1948, to Jordanian occupation, Jewish worshipers would visit the narrow Western Wall Plaza which was approximately 3 meters wide and 27 meters long. Today, approximately 70 meters of the Kossel are exposed at the Western Wall Plaza. Most of the wall is still hidden by houses built along it in the Muslim Quarter.
In 1967, the Old City and Har HaBayeis were liberated by IDF soldiers. The story of 3,000 years of Jewish history is constantly being revealed. Layers upon layers of history are being meticulously inspected by careful archaeological teams.
On a special tunnel tour leading up to Tisha B'Av, BJL was able to not only see the regular underground route which leads to the closest spot to the Kodesh HaKodeshim, but also some new discovered and working areas not open to the public.
