Jerusalem, Israel - June 5, 2017 - "Commemorating Jerusalem's Jubilee" was the title of BreakingIsraelNews, Prophecy in the News, event at the Bible Lands Museum, Jerusalem, in Yerushalayim on Monday afternoon.
Rabbi Tuly Weisz, director of Israel365 and founder of Breaking Israel News(BIN) served as Rabbi of Beth Jacob Congregation in Columbus, Ohio, before making aliyah with his wife and family. Israel365 used photos to show Israel in a positive way. BIN, an internet news site, shares news from a biblical perspective. In his opening remarks, Weisz noted, "Half the world believes in the Bible...every page of Tanach talks about Israel, the land of Israel, and G-d of Israel." Many saw the Israeli victory of the Six-Day War as a miracle of biblical proportions.
The first speaker on the opening panel was MK Rabbi Yehudah Glick. In his remarks, Glick said 1000 Jews went on the Temple Mount on Yom Yerushalayim last week. When he first started advocating for all religions to be allowed to worship on the Temple Mount, only three rabbis supported him, now the number is up to 300 rabbis. Change comes from bottom up, there is a dynamic and process, and can not happen in one day, said Glick.
The Mishkan was in Shilo for 369 years before King David established in Jerusalem, said former mayor of Shiloh, David Rubin. Rubin, author of five books, including "The Islamic Tzunami" asserted, Judea and Samaria are the biblical heartland of Eretz Yisrael.
Bar Ilan University Arabic literature professor, Dr. Mordechai Kedar, began his remarks saying the industry of fake news has been around since the 7th century. In 682, 50 years after the death of Mohammad, an internal struggle between sects of Islam, invented the night journey to Jerusalem. Another example of faked news, given by Kedar, was the guide published in English to entice British tourists by the Grand Mufti Husseni, which mentioned Solomon's Temple and Mount Moriah. Since 1967, all such references have disappeared from these Arabic publications.
The first panel, moderated by Adam Eliyahu Berkowitz, also included Britt Lode, and Jeremy Saltan.
"Reporting on Israel in a World of Fake News and Media Bias" moderated by Abra Froman, included Amotz Ayal, Marney Blom, Tamar Sternthal, Alex Trajman and Mark Zell. Sternthal mentioned cases of false stories being published and later corrected. Trajman added, media in some cases are not just biased, but are agenda driven, He used example of Adam in Gan Eden, tested to not eat from tree of knowledge, adding, now we have "tree in pocket" checking hundreds of times a day.
Meir Panim, fighting poverty in Israel, one of several sponsors, provided refreshments,which were followed by two more panels, Gael Grunewald, of the World Zionist Organization was one of the panelists.
"Current events in Israel are often interpreted from a religious perspective, which can be a source of disappointment, manipulation, and exploitation." "The past 50 years saw the reunification of Jerusalem, the return of the Jewish people to their holy sites and the in-gathering of millions of Jews from the four corners of the world back to the land of Israel.' The two dozens varied voices on the panels provided a biblical perspective on fake news and current events.
Amotz Eyal, founder of TPS News Agency and Tazpit/CEO, spoke of the sin of spies in the upcoming parsha. They did not lie.They were afraid. They saw giants. With media shrinking, it is important to get the truth out, first and fast.
