Jerusalem, Israel - May 1, 2017 - Across Israel on Sunday night hundreds of memorial services were held, sponsored by youth groups and local communities.  In Jerusalem, a capacity crowd gathered at Ammunition Hill to attend a programm conducted in English, to remember fallen Israeli Lone Soldiers.

The Lone Soldier Center, in memory of Michael Levin, H'yd,  organizes the program, which this year was live-streamed and seen by over 15,000.

Ari Abramowitz, Director of The Land of Israel Network and a former lone soldier, acted as MC. Michael Levin, z'l, a friend of Abramowitz, was a lone soldier who fell in fighting in Lebanon in 2006.

After honor guard, lowering of Israeli flag and memorial siren, a Yizkor prayer was said and Memorial Torch lit.

Ari Kalker, Director of Housing and Special Projects, also served as a lone soldier and gave opening remarks.

Special guest speakers this year were Elisa Levin, sister of Michael z"l, and Yocheved Rindenow, sister of Sholmo Rindenow z"l, who spoke lovingly of their fallen brothers.

Tuvia Book's remarks about his good friend, Alex Singer, z"l, who fell in 1987, were also very moving. Singer, z"l, was a talented writer and artist. The Singer family continues to share impressive accomplishments from a son taken too soon.

Musical interludes by musician and artist Yitchok Meir Malek and Hazan Melech Perry, included their original songs. "Risk it All" written by Meir Malek, includes:

"And so you know this song's for Mike,

the sweetest guy I'm sure you's like,

gave his life with all of us in mind

his heart so big his lover you'll always find,

Mike your soul's alive - make you souls arrive,

Mike your soul''s alive - make you souls arrive,

don't live to life to live

live life to give."

Tehillim was recited by Richard Corman. Kaddish was recited by Shlomo Rindenow's, z"l, brothers.

Closing remarks were given by National Director of the Lone Soldier Center Josh Flaster, who also served as a long soldier.

All fallen Israeli soldiers are remembered on Yom HaZikaron, this special Memorial Day. To those who came from overseas to help protect the Jewish homeland, perhaps a special thanks is due.. How fitting, to as always end with singing of HaTikvah, the Hope.
