Bethesda, MD – July 31, 2025 – Naval Support Activity Bethesda was placed on lockdown Thursday morning following reports of a potential active shooter near Building 10.

The first alert was issued at 10:45 a.m., citing a security incident near Building 63. All personnel were instructed to shelter in place, and gates were immediately closed to all non-emergency vehicle traffic.

By 11:00 a.m., base officials confirmed that security teams were actively responding to unconfirmed reports of an active shooter in the vicinity of Building 10. The installation remained on lockdown as of 11:15 a.m., with no “All Clear” issued and security continuing to sweep the area.

Authorities have not released further details, and the lockdown remains in effect as the investigation continues.
