The Aged Vanilla lawsuit, filed against A&W and its parent company Keurig Dr Pepper in August 2020, alleges that the company misled customers by labeling their drinks as “Made With Aged Vanilla,” while they actually used a synthetic ingredient, ethyl vanillin. A survey from March 2020 cited in the lawsuit found that about 89% of consumers believed that the vanilla flavor in the product was naturally derived, as implied by the label. The court has preliminarily approved a settlement that obliges Keurig Dr Pepper to pay $15 million for their misleading claims and compensate consumers who purchased the drinks under these false pretenses.
