Baltimore, MD - Nov. 7, 2022 - On Tuesday, during the week of "early voting", the two hopefuls seeking to serve as Maryland's next chief executive met virtually with community rabbonim and the heads of the Jewish day schools and community organizations from both Baltimore and Silver Spring.

The meeting served as an opportunity for both Wes Moore and Delegate Dan Cox AND the community representatives to be on display for one another. Each candidate had their own time with the full group to present their vision for the state and their positions on the core issues of interest and concern.

Rav Yaakov Hopfer, president of the Vaad HaRabbonim of Baltimore, opened each of the meetings and offered words of introduction, and then turned over the program to Rabbi Ariel Sadwin, executive director of Agudah Maryland, who arranged the meetings. Also participating in the meetings were Delegate Dalya Attar and Councilman Yitzy Schleifer.

Roughly eighty people joined in the conversation from the Orthodox Jewish community across Maryland. The attendees were shul rabbis and school principals/executives, and the directors of service organizations ranging from financial and social service providers and health and wellness entities, to safety and security services, and everything in between. Each one took their respective turn to introduce themselves and to briefly explain what their organization does to impact the community.

Both candidates were taken aback and duly impressed by the civic mindedness of the group and the impressive array of services available in the Orthodox Jewish community. For those in attendance from the community, it served as an appropriate introduction to the two candidates, one of who will be our next governor, and a reminder that we are fortunate to be a part of such a remarkable community.
