President Isaac Herzog began his remarks by saying: “Every new immigrant who chooses to settle the Land of Israel is privileged to follow in the footsteps of our Patriarch Abraham and to fulfill the commandment, ‘Go forth from your country and your land and your father’s house, to the land that I shall show you.’
“You who are sitting with us here, prize laureates and all immigrants from English-speaking countries, have chosen to listen to the great shofar-blast of liberty. You have chosen to be part of the process of the Return to Zion, the wonder that has no parallel in world history, as a nation returns to its land after 2,000 years. You have chosen to leave your comfort zones, your parents or your grandchildren. You have chosen to be separated from your social circles and to forgo familiar horizons, in order to devote yourself to the dream of generations: a sweet and exciting dream that often comes with difficult moments of sobriety.”
“As new immigrants, and as families of new immigrants, all of us here feel a profound connection to our sisters and brothers in the Diaspora, a connection that we must work to strengthen. Because aliyah does not mean forgetting the past; it does not mean erasing an identity that we have already cultivated, but rather adding another floor to our national home. Each of our laureates did exactly that, continuing to build more and more here. What all of you have in common is your non-stop desire to give, your responsibility toward others, and your dedication to the Land of Israel and its inhabitants.”
Tony Gelbart, Co-Founder and Chairman of Nefesh B’Nefesh: “Each year I am humbled by the incredible contributions and dedication of Olim, as they continue to transform the landscape of the Jewish State in every area of expertise. Honoring the extraordinary Bonei Zion recipients at the President’s Residence, on the eve of Israel celebrating its 74th anniversary, demonstrates how our entire nation is proud and appreciative of the remarkable successes these Olim have and are continuing to achieve.”
