Jeusalem, Israel - Feb. 10, 2022 - President Isaac Herzog and his wife Michal Herzog hosted the 39th session of the 929 Tanach learning initiative, on Thursday, February 10, 2022, in Beit Hanasi in Jerusalem, Israel. The special gathering also marked the shloshim of Aura Herzog z"l the President's mother, as well as the beginning of the third cycle for the Tanach study program, now in English as well as Hebrew.

Speakers included the initiator and head of 929 Rav Benny Lau, Bilha Ben Eliyahu, Miron H. Izakson, and Ruth Cohen, a winner of the World Bible Quiz for Youth.  Rabbi Yoel Ben-Nun led a siyum at the end of the program.

Michal Herzog spoke at the beginning of the event saying, we are opening the third round of the daily chapter of the Tanach, 929, on the shloshim of my dear mother-in-law, the late Aura Herzog z"l.

"And Hashem saw light - it was good." The Torah believes that there is a delicate thread that connects the right, the just, the moral, and the beautiful. A statement worthy in the context of Aura Herzog, to whom this meeting is dedicated.

"Aura has been a significant figure in my adult life. She adopted me to her heart as a young bride and gave me space, support, and mostly taught me. Aura loved the Chumash and saw it as the founding text of the Jewish people. Already as a young woman, in 1958, she was the one who initiated the first World Bible Quiz  held on Israel Independence Day."

She spoke of her mother-in-law's endless commitment to hospitality, as a way to bring people together, make them feel welcome, and be a positive influence. "Anyone who has stayed with her often feels that this is a lifelong experience. She had the talent and ability to talk to everyone, and make everyone feel close, dignified, wanted. From presidents and world leaders to the most vulnerable populations."

At the end of her speech, the President's wife said: "Here too, we feel it in almost every corner, and we know how much she has added here, instilled hospitality, and set a high standard of aesthetics and excellence that should be strived for at all times. Aura remembered the blessing and revealed to us the beauty."

The event was shared online for the Israeli Ambassador to the US Michael Herzog to join with his families and friends.

More children were present on the wet and cold wintery day in Jerusalem than at the previous 929 meetings. Rav Lau's family also attended, including his mother Joan Lunzer Lau- Lavie. The room was full again after two years of corona limitations, but masks were required and worn at all times only removed when speaking from the podium.
