Baltimore, MD - Oct. 7, 2021 - Today, Rosh Chodesh, 1 MarCheshvan, is the 50th yahrzeit of a dear friend and member of the Talmudical Academy Graduating Class of 1971, Morris Sandler, Moshe  Yehudah ben Avraham HaCohen., z"l. Morris' parents, Abraham and Tillye Sandler, z"l  were Holocaust survivors who lost their spouses and children to the murderous Nazis, y'sh. They then met, were married, and had one son, Moshe Yehudah ben Avraham HaCohen.

Fifty years ago today, Morris, their only child, was tragically taken from them and us when a tire failed while driving on 695. Moshe did not survive. His parents lived with their loss for the rest of their lives, yet accepted Hashem's will and remained an important part of our Jewish community. The most tragic aspect is, given all the Sandler's losses during the Holocaust and then their only son, Morris, there remained no family to remember or memorialize Morris or his parents.

Twenty years ago, Morris' classmates, the Talmudical Academy Class of '71, decided that Moshe Yehudah ben Avraham Hacohen, z'l, would be memorialized on his yahrzeit by sponsoring Shalosh Seudos, giving over Divrei Torah in his memory and where possible saying Kaddish for him. This continued today as the Daf Yomi by Rabbi Shmuel Silber at Suburban Orthodox Congregation Toras Chaim was sponsored, tzedaka was given in Moshe's memory and Kaddish was said.

There are many tragic stories related to the Holocaust. Moshe and his family's loss hits personally for the TA Class of 1971 and the entire Baltimore Community. We daven that we can perpetuate Moshe Yehudah ben Avraham's, z"l, memory as well as that of the Sandler family. I personally thank fellow classmates, the TA Graduating Class of 1971 for taking on this tremendous undertaking.

May Moshe Yehudah ben Avraham HaCohen's, z"l, neshama experience a tremendous aliyah and may his neshama intercede with the Holy One sitting on the Kiseh HaCovod for good for us all.

Tizku le Mitzvos.
