Heritage Foundation President Kevin Roberts told staffers Wednesday that he “made a mistake” with his much-criticized video defending anti-Israel host Tucker Carlson, but that he wants to stay and clean up what he called “the mess.”
“I made a mistake and I let you down and I let down this institution, and I am sorry for that. Period. Full stop,” Mr. Roberts said during the internal staff meeting, as shown on a video posted on YouTube by the Washington Free Beacon.
The nearly two-hour gathering was private, but the video of Mr. Roberts’ remarks and questions from employees was leaked almost immediately afterward to multiple news outlets.
All indications are that Mr. Roberts plans to brazen it out despite rising calls for him t...
BaltimoreJewishLife.com (BJL) is proud to partner with STAR-K CERTIFICATION that realizes that there is no substitute for a person’s own Rav. In an effort to offer a possible solution, it has launched its Institute of Halachah as a public service. Over the years, the agency’s Kashrus Hotline has answered generic halachic questions from kosher consumers the world over, including inquiries regarding the kosher status of foods and certified Sabbath mode appliances. The formation of a separate official division within STAR-K testifies to the need for addressing these issues.
The Institute of Halachah is directed by HaRav Mordechai Frankel, under the guidance of HaRav Moshe Heinemann, STAR-K’s Rabbinic Administrator. It is an invaluable resource for a diverse array of rabbis to discuss general halachic matters, as well as gain access to source materials for shiurim and answers to congregants’ questions.
Shailos for regular or Kashrus shailos may emailed or discussed using this widget.

All funds raised via this platform will be carefully and responsibly overseen, both now and in perpetuity, by a small committee of professionals with strong backgrounds in legal and financial planning/budgeting, alongside oversight by community Rabbanim and Ahavas YisraelPlease give generously during these tragic moments to ensu...
The Federal Aviation Administration said it was ordering airline traffic to be reduced by 10% at 40 airports while air-traffic controllers work without pay during the government shutdown.
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said starting Friday, the reduction would help keep air travel safe as flight delays and cancellations pile up. The shutdown, which began Oct. 1, has exacerbated staffing issues in the ranks of federal transportation employees, leading to flight delays and long lines at security checkpoints.
“This is about where’s the pressure and how do we alleviate the pressure,” Duffy said Wednesday at a news briefing.
As the shutdown has stretched on, travel businesses have sounded warnings about the impact on consumers and companies. A let...
During the Second Temple, the Greek empire reigned (over Israel),1 and they (the Greeks) passed decrees against the Jews and (tried) to erase their religion, and did not allow them to carry out Torah (study) or the commandments. They put their hands on their property and their daughters. They entered the Temple, destroyed and made the pure unclean. The Jews were in great distress because of them and were much oppressed, until the G-d of their fathers had mercy on them, delivering them from their hands and saving them. Then overcame, the sons of the Hasmonean High Priest, (the Greeks) and killed them and saved the Jews from their hands. They appointed a king from the Priests, and the kingdom of Israel was restored for more than 200 years until the destruction of (the) second (Temple). When the Jews overcame their enemies and destroyed them, it was the 25th of Kislev2 when they entered the Sanctuary (inner room) and did not find pure (olive) oil in the Temple, except one jar sealed with seal of the High Priest, and it did not contain enough to light except for one day only. But they lit from it the lamps of the Menorah3 for eight days, until they could crush olives and produce a (new quantity) of pure oil. For these reasons, decreed the Sages of that generation that these eight days that begin on the 25th Kislev, will be days of joy and praise. One lights on them lamps at evening at the entrance to the houses, every evening of the eight nights to show off and demonstrate the miracle. These days are called ''Hanukah'' that is to say ''they rested'' (chanu) on the ''25'' ('th of the month) because on the 25th they rested from their enemies. and also because of those days they (re)-dedicated the house (Temple) which their foes had defiled. Also some say that it is a commandment to increase slightly the festive meals on Hanukah. Another reason is because the work of (building) the Sanctuary (in the desert) was completed in these days. One should tell one's children the story of the miracles that were done for our fore-fathers in those days, (see Josephus) However, these meals are not considered as part of the commandment unless one says at the meal songs of praise. One should increase charity in these Hanukah days, for this can help mend any defects in our souls. This charity, should be given particularly to poor Torah scholars. (KSA 139:1) 1) 352 BCE until 70 CE 2) 139 BCE 3) The Menorah was made of gold and had seven branches.

Israeli Minister of Diaspora Affairs and Combating Antisemitism Amichai Chikli issued a stark warning following the election of Zohran Mamdani as mayor of New York City, describing the result as a "critical turning point" for the city's Jewish community.
In a strongly-worded opinion column published by Fox News, Chikli wrote, "The city that once stood as the world’s beacon of liberty has handed the keys of power to a Hamas sympathizer." He added, "It is almost unthinkable that New York - the proud and historic center of Jewish life - could become the American city where Jews no longer feel at home or safe."
Chikli argued that Mamdani's victory signals a broader ideological shift in New York, placing the city's future in the hands of a figure he said "r...
New York City Mayor-elect Zorhan Mamdani responded to a new Anti-Defamation League (ADL) initiative to monitor his administration, as well as the harsh criticism from the organization's CEO and National Director, Jonathan Greenblatt.
Speaking to the press on the day after his election, Mamdani stated that he had not met with Greenblatt and claimed that he takes the issue of antisemitism "incredibly seriously."
He noted that in his victory speech, "I spoke about how my City Hall will stand steadfast with Jewish New Yorkers in fighting antisemitism across the city and making that clear in the actions that we deliver on January 1st."
The Mayor-elect added, "I look forward to working with Jewish leaders across this city, whether they're elected officials, rabbis, or community...

Annapolis, MD - Nov. 5, 2025 - Fewer than 50% of registered Maryland voters said they would support Gov. Wes Moore (D) if the election were held today, according to a poll released Wednesday.
But that’s actually a good baseline for Moore for an election that’s still a year away, said Mileah Kromer, director of the poll produced for the Institute of Politics at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.
“I was the most interested, this far out from the election, in what Wes Moore’s vote share right now is, because there’s no Republican candidate nominee and Wes Moore is obviously going to be the nominee for the Democratic Party,” Kromer said. “So, it’s Wes Moore versus generic Republican versus generic other candidates. I think...
Baltimore, MD - Nov. 5, 2025 - If you or someone you know is sick, you’re not alone. ‘Tis the season, but hospitals across Baltimore are packed even though respiratory illnesses remain relatively low.
Dr. Sharon Swencki is an emergency medicine physician at MedStar Health. She said the late-summer COVID rise has tapered off, and they are not seeing a spike in respiratory illnesses, but the emergency rooms have been full.
“It’s a trickle-down effect,” Swencki said. “When the hospitals are full, then the ERs are full, and then we can’t get patients through the ER and upstairs.”
When emergency rooms are filled, hospitals cannot accept new patients. Swencki said Union Memorial Hospital and many others across Baltimore have had to divert ...

New York, NY - Nov. 5, 2025 - The voters have spoken, and Agudath Israel of America congratulates those elected this election cycle.
Amongst the stories in this election is the remarkable turnout of the Orthodox Jewish community in New York City. Hundreds of thousands participated — including many first-time registrants and voters. Community organizations in Flatbush, Queens, Borough Park, Far Rockaway, and throughout the city galvanized, with Agudath Israel, in a proactive, multi-pronged get-out-the-vote effort. This significant level of engagement, which even exceeded the already higher turnout in the general population, reflects a deep sense of responsibility. It demonstrates a firm understanding that our community’s voice, expressed at the ballot...

New York, NY - Nov. 5, 2025 - Jewish organizations reacted to the election of Democratic Socialist candidate Zohran Mamdani as the next Mayor of New York City with a vow to hold the mayor-elect "accountable" for protecting Jewish communities and residents in light of his support for antisemitic movements.
The United Jewish Appeal-Federation of New York, Jewish Community Relations Council of New York, Anti-Defamation League of New York and New Jersey, American Jewish Committee of New York, and the New York Board of Rabbis said in a joint statement: “New Yorkers have spoken, electing Zohran Mamdani as the next Mayor of New York City. We recognize that voters are animated by a range of issues, but we cannot ignore that the Mayor-elect holds core beliefs fundamentally at odds ...
