The Palestinian Health Ministry said Friday afternoon that a man was killed in clashes with the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) during a demonstration in the town of Beit Dajan near Nablus in the West Bank.

The Palestinian, 45, was rushed to a nearby hospital in severe condition after being hot in the head, Palestinian Ma’an news agency reported.

The man, named Atef Youssef Hanaysh in the report, attended a weekly rally against Jewish settlements in the area.

The IDF said in a statement that Israeli troops fired live shots in the air "in response to massive stone-throwing by Palestinian protesters.”

"We are aware of reports regarding a Palestinian casualty. The cause of the injury is still unknown," the army said. "The incident is being examined."

According to the Hebrew-language Ynet news site, the man was affiliated with the Hamas terrorist organization. Read more at i24
