Jerusalem, Israel - Jan. 28, 2021 - The Maryland/Israel Development Center (MIDC) sponsored an international webinar under the title: "The Abraham Peace Accords: A Catalyst for International Business with Israel, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Beyond" on Wednesday, January 28, 2021. The online event was hosted by the Executive Director of MIDC, Barry Bogage,  and moderated by Baltimore attorney Howard Sollins.

Senator Ben Cardin was the featured guest speaker, prior to a discussion with Jon Medved of OurCrowd presenting from Jerusalem, Sabah Al Binari in the United Arab Emirates, and Yifat Alon Perel, Commercial and Trade Affairs Minister at the Embassy of Israel.

Senator Cardin began his remarks mentioning his frightening time on January 6 in the Senate Chamber. However, he continued "on January 20, 2021, Democrats and Republicans together celebrated the peaceful transfer of power."

President Harry Truman in 1948, went against his State Department advisers to recognize Israel. Cardin proceeded to emphasize the US and Israel share values and have a special relationship with benefits in the areas of intelligence, as economic partners, and in global technology. The challenge is the "common enemy Iran" but we must move forward carefully in the region he cautioned. The Senator ended his remarks assuring the international audience of "solid support in the US Congress" for Israel by both political parties.

OurCrowd CEO Jon Medved began his presentation with a slide showing not only Israel as "VacciNation" but with UAE and Bahrain coming in second and third in the world race to vaccinate their populations against the novel coronavirus.

Medved likened the Abraham Accords to the "dropping of the sand curtain" revealing publicly silent business deals of the past and opening up to huge potential. Potential in the tens of billions of dollars, he anticipates, especially in AI startups and FinTech, as Israel, UAE, and Bahrain cooperate in the future.

In introducing himself, Sabah Al Binari of the UAE mentioned his adviser at Columbia University where he studied for six years for an advanced degree was Israeli. The Israeli-UAE combined relationship he envisions as the future global gateway, to the east, and to the west, growing with huge returns.

As Yifat Alon Perel speaking from the Embassy in DC, mentioned the countries involved were not at war. She is pleased to move forward with extended bilateral cooperation and expectations are great.

MIDC is a non-profit “public-private partnership” of the Maryland Department of Commerce, Israel’s Ministry of Economy and Trade, and The Associated: Jewish Federation of Baltimore to promote bilateral trade and economic development.

In summation, Bogage told BJL, “The Abraham Accords are a groundbreaking achievement for Israel which open new business opportunities in the UAE, Bahrain, and beyond. We were excited to be able to present a webinar to uncover such opportunities for American and global businesses.”

To conclude the webinar, Sollins mentioned how fitting the timing was for the event to be held on Tu Bishvat, a time to celebrate growth and the future.
