Jerusalem, Israel December 1, 2020: Diaspora Affairs Minister Omer Yankelevich visited the Dan Family Aish World Center in the Old City for an introduction to Aish HaTorah’s activities, to learn about their new upcoming initiatives, and to speak to visiting university students.

In her first visit to Aish HaTorah since taking office, the Blue & White Knesset member was briefed on Aish’s upcoming initiatives in digital media. MK Yankelevich told Aish senior staff programs being worked on by her office have a shared goal, to connect Jews to their identity, their heritage, and to each other.

“This important meeting was really just the beginning,” said Rabbi Steven Burg, Aish Global CEO. “We have been so blessed to have such a warm and supportive relationship with so much of Israeli political leadership. We continue to cultivate these relationships because we want the same thing, to help the Jewish people, by finding more ways to work together. We look forward to developing the shared goals and initiatives of the Ministry of Diaspora Affairs and Aish in many substantive ways in the coming months.”

MK Yankelevitch also met briefly with Aish HaTorah Rosh Yeshiva, Rabbi Yitzchak Berkovits. Together with Rabbi Burg, they spoke about common goals to reach all Jews, wherever they are, regardless of affiliation, and help them to connect with pride to their Jewish identity.

Foreign students studying at the Hebrew University overseas school who have opted into the Thrive program and Israeli participants of the Triumph leadership program came to the Aish World Center to hear MK Yankelevitch speak about Israel’s responsibility to Jews anywhere in the world. She outlined some of the new efforts being made by her office, including a portal for world Jewish educators to access educational materials and lesson plans.

As she looked out from Aish rooftop’s panoramic view of the Kotel, Kotel plaza, and Har Habayit, Minister Yankelevitch was clearly emotional.
