Amazon removed from availability a novelty Holocaust t-shirt emblazoned with the yellow star patch that was used by the Nazis to mark Jews’ clothes, following an outcry over the offensive nature of the item.

The yellow star, inscribed with the word “Jude” — “Jew” in German —, is one of the enduring symbols of Nazi Germany’s genocide of six million European Jews in the early 1940s.

“All sellers must follow our selling guidelines and those who do not will be subject to action including potential removal of their account,” the online mega-retailer said in response. “The product in question is no longer available.”

According to the Jewish Chronicle, the decision follows an inquiry from the Holocaust Educational Trust, a UK-based charity devoted to preserving and communicating the history of the Holocaust to the country’s youth.
