Baltimore, MD - Apr. 5, 2020 - I recently learned that Johns Hopkins Hospital was in need of additional, specialized equipment worn by doctors in the ICU. This equipment is essential in helping to prevent transmission of infectious diseases such as Covid-19. Due to unprecedented worldwide demand, 3M, the largest manufacturer of Powered Air Purifying Respirators (PAPRs) in the world, announced that there is a two to three-month lead time on delivery of new orders.

Without this equipment, doctors are at a much greater risk of contracting Covid-19 and endangering themselves as well as preventing them from further treating sick patients.

Having exhausted all supply channels in the medical industry, I did some research and discovered that the automobile industry also uses PAPR kits to protect employees painting cars. Figuring the supply chain for the automotive industry would differ from that of the medical, I began reaching out to executives at local automotive businesses to see if they had access to suppliers outside of the medical network.

I reached out to the Faders, of MileOne Autogroup, and explained the dire situation our hospitals were facing. The Faders immediately responded that they had access to 10 brand new PAPR devices. Heritage/Mile One had previously spent thousands of dollars on each one of these respirators and without hesitation offered to donate the devices to Johns Hopkins.

Thank you to Mile One and all of the local corporations that are stepping up to the plate and putting public safety above profits.
