Jerusalem, Israel - Aug. 13, 2018 - The Israeli Museum, located near the Israeli Knesset in Jerusalem, Israel, is a popular tourist destination. With free admission for children in August, families fill sections of the Children's Wing.This summer a new exhibit "Eye to I" aims to engage, one on one contact of children and the adult with them. There are activities outside and in the museum, using various communication techniques.
For Israel Museum visitors an app has been developed to provide guided information on exhibits. Individuals can read the information posted on traditional museum signs, or listen to narration on their cell phones. Head sets and museum docents are still available for tours. The downloaded Israel Museum App works outside of the museum, but takes up considerable amount of Google space.
"Fashion Statements" showcases years of Israeli fashion in a temporary exhibit with 150 outfits. Dressed manikins and audiovisuals fill out the space, more to adult interests.
Across the corridor from Fashion is the Jewish Art and Life Wing, where fashion also is important in life cycles of birth, marriage and death. From the Yemenite town of Sana'a, an elaborate outfit worn by a woman who had given birth in the late 19th century, is on display. The woman was to sit by a triangular table in her decorated dress, called a lului, which would later be used for her burial garment.
From Iraqi Kurdistan a gnune, or wedding tent for yichud of newly weds is on display. Elaborate wedding outfits for both women and men are included, with rings, ketubot, and other life cycle items from various countries Jewish communities.
The Hungarian chevra kadisha carriage in some communities would pass through the town and the door of the deceased's shul would be open as the funeral procession went by on the way to burial.
Ornate and varied Torah scrolls and mantles, manuscripts, rooms full of historic Judaica, replications of old synagogues. The Rhythm of Jewish Life and holidays are displayed and preserved at the Israel Museum in Jerusalem.
