The American Jewish Committee (AJC ) is holding their annual Global Forum for the first time in Israel, in celebration of 70 years of Israeli independence. The organization, founded in 1906, advocates for Israel, to advance its position in the world.

AJC president John Shapiro, introduced President Reuven Rivlin, Sunday morning, 27 of Sivan, June 10, to a delegation of  AJC board members and leadership at Beit Hanasi, in Jerusalem, Israel.

The President congratulated the members for coming to Jerusalem and expressed appreciation for the great love of AJC members to Israel and the Jewish people from the time of establishment of the organization, before the State of Israel in 1948, to the present.

"Great to welcome you here in Jerusalem," the President said in his remarks and noted the great partnership between the Jewish People and the State of Israel. "Here in Israel we have four tribes, you are Jews of Diaspora, the fifth tribe...children in the Diaspora do not know enough about us and we do not know enough about your life and we must change that. "

The President also said that the strength of Israel and Diaspora Jewry when working together and cooperating, would benefit the whole world.

After his brief remarks, President Rivlin took questions from the audience, including one from his cousin. After sitting for an official group photograph in the front row, the President went to the back of the room for another pose with those sitting in the back rows.

For the AJC Global Forum 2,400 people are in Israel to participate, from Sunday to Wednesday, in multiple events. The opening plenary with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is at Jerusalem's International Conference Center. Four hotels will host other sessions and events for various AJC groups who have come to Israel.

Among the leadership at Beit Hanasi were past AJC presidents, Comay Fellows, and board members,  including Maryland resident, Foreign Policy Research Institute senior adviser Dov Zakheim.
