Baltimore, MD - May 3, 2018 - In response to the recent heartbreaking tragedies in our community, Chai Lifeline invites you to an inspirational and uplifting evening featuring the world-renowned insights and uplifting perspectives of Dr. David Pelcovitz.
It is an evening you will not want to miss. As the Director of Programs and Services for Chai Lifeline’s Mid-Atlantic Region and a Baltimore native, Tzvi Haber shared his thoughts on the value and inspiration for the program.
“Nearly every sanctuary, school classroom, and institution in Baltimore has experienced catastrophic and unimaginable trauma in the last two years. Bikur Cholim, Gevuras Yarden, and Chai Lifeline Mid-Atlantic have each lost founding members of their organizations. Dr. Pelcovitz, who holds the Chair in Psychology and Jewish Education at Yeshiva University, has an outstanding reputation for knowing what to say, and how to say it.”
Since inception in 1987, Chai Lifeline has firmly established itself as the preeminent international support network for children, families, and Jewish communities worldwide. ChaiSymposium, a project of Chai Lifeline, aims to provide free educational and motivational lectures, workshops, and symposia to the entire Jewish community. Mrs. Rivky Flamm LCSW-C, a licensed social worker and Chai Lifeline’s Mid-Atlantic Family Case Manager was asked more about the importance of this particular ChaiSymposium:
“The Baltimore Jewish community - across the religious spectrum - has experienced an inordinate number of high-profile tragedies in the past year. Some were expected, others were sudden. Everyone has been deeply affected by the recent losses in our community.”
As the Director of Psychology at North Shore University Hospital-NYU School of Medicine, and as Clinical Professor of Psychology in Psychiatry at NYU School of Medicine, Dr. Pelcovitz has consulted extensively with the Jewish community worldwide. His lectures are legendary in scope, content, and context. His ability to reach the diverse spectrum of Jewish life coupled with his extraordinary wisdom was the reason he was selected for the upcoming ChaiSymposium.
In “CULTIVATING RESILIENCE IN THE FACE OF CHALLENGES”, Dr. Pelcovitz will be providing his perspective of resilience and coping strategies for an unpredictable world of personal loss, struggle, and life setbacks.
Baltimore is unique in our harmony of eclectic diversity and cohesive oneness. There is a sense of unity and collective responsibility that pervades the synagogues, the community centers, and institutions on every corner. Each and every one of her citizens feels an intangible and yet innate responsibility for the other. It is this symphony of mellifluous compassion that was the catalyst for this ChaiSymposium.
