Tax Day is less than a week away, but federal officials are spreading the word about another upcoming deadline for Marylanders who are owed another check from the federal government.

Almost 1.5 million Americans have just a few months left to file for unclaimed refunds from the 2019 tax year, including nearly 31,400 in Maryland, the Internal Revenue Service said Wednesday.

The IRS estimates the unclaimed cash totals $1.5 billion nationwide. Marylanders are due about $32 million, where the median unclaimed refund is worth more than $890.
