It was a snowy day in Baltimore and school was canceled. My brother Shua was sitting and learning in the Agudah of Baltimore when his rebbi, Rabbi Juravel came over with pride and gave him a dollar! Shua felt like a million dollars that his rebbi had noticed him using his time wisely and rewarded him as well. Shua went home and put the dollar in an envelope, sealed it and wrote that he had received this dollar from Rabbi Juravel on this date for his learning when school was canceled.
For decades this envelope sat in his drawer. I had seen it numerous times and wondered what was such a big deal about this dollar? I believe we all knew as children that Rabbi Juravel wasn’t just a regular rebbi. He was someone from bygone times, so razor focused on what was important in life. A dollar ...

Foreign Minister Eli Cohen met today (Wednesday) with his Polish counterpart Zbigniew Rau to sign an agreement to resume the Israeli youth Holocaust trips to the Nazi concentration camps in Poland and to announce the return of the Polish ambassador to Israel.
Relations between Israel and Poland deteriorated after Poland passed two laws related to the history Holocaust. The first law makes it illegal to blame Poland for the horrors of the Holocaust, while the second restricts the rights of Jewish Holocaust survivors to reclaim property which was taken from them during World War Two.
Former Prime Minister Yair Lapid delayed the appointment of an ambassador to Poland during his term as Foreign Minister in protest against these laws. The current government has attempted to resolve the diplom...

Baltimore, MD - Mar. 22, 2023 - 2:20PM - A massive traffic accident has occurred on the west side of the beltway between Liberty Road and Security Boulevard, resulting in six confirmed fatalities and one person in critical condition, according to WBALTV. The operator of the vehicle responsible for the accident has also been transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.
The accident happened when a car traveling northbound on the inner loop of the beltway approached a work zone and went through a cut-through, striking multiple road workers. Some workers were hit with such force that they were pushed into the outer loop, which is the southbound lane of the beltway. They were pronounced deceased at the scene.
The beltway is currently closed in both the northbound and so...
US Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield addressed a UN Security Council Briefing on the Situation in the Middle East today (Wednesday).
"The United States remains deeply concerned by the sustained violence in Israel and the West Bank. 2022 was the deadliest year since the Second Intifada. And 2023 is on track to surpass this staggering level of violence," Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield began.
"The United States is troubled by the escalation of violent attacks by Palestinians against Israelis and by violent attacks against Palestinians by Israeli settlers in the West Bank. We reject all such acts of violence, as well as incitement to violence. And let me also underscore that accountability and justice should be pursued with equal rigor – and resources – in al...

People who live in a busy area of Baltimore County will have a chance to learn more about plans to develop a large apartment building next to the White Marsh Mall.
Neighbors of the proposed project are concerned the development would cause excess traffic and school overcrowding.
Wednesday’s meeting is to view details on the project and hear county officials' comments on the development plan, which is to place a 516 unit apartment building next to the White Marsh Mall in the area of the old Sears store.
Neighbors in the area might have more than 1,000 new neighbors if zoning is approved to build a new apartment building on site.
Property managers plan to redevelop the old retail site into a new four-story residential building containing a mix of everything from studio apartme...

Getting ready for Passover in Israel this holiday season might be a little harder this year due to some meat shortages across the country.
With Ramadan around the corner and Passover falling not so far afterward, many people, Jews and Muslims, are stocking up their homes with food and people should expect to see shortages of both chicken and beef as well as higher prices.
"Just before the holiday, food prices are rampant," Chairman of the Israel Beitenu party MK Avigdor Lieberman wrote on his Twitter with a screenshot from Walla! of food prices on chickens. "Finance Minister Smotrich is in Paris, Deri is busy with Deri Law 1 and 2 and Netanyahu is busy with legislation that will allow him to receive gifts. This lawlessness comes at the expense of all the citizens of I...
Meet Joe. Joe was a client of mine over the course of a decade. He first came into my program when he was in his 50’s. He was already suffering from heart disease and diabetes. On top of that, he was a cancer survivor and was obese. Joe was on multiple medications and he received our standard care at that time and made progress. He lost some weight, began exercising more consistently, and made many improvements in his diet. And yes, he did see some positive results. Sugar levels and cholesterol did improve somewhat. But he never saw the breakthrough we wanted to enable him to eliminate his medications, lose significant weight and reverse his diabetes and heart disease. When Joe returned to my program 2 years after he left, the weight he lost ...

A new poll conducted for the haredi news website Kikar Hashabbat has revealed extremely high support for the government's judicial reform package among the haredi population, despite dire warnings from those on the Left that the reforms will lead to economic hardship.
The poll surveyed over a thousand people and was taken following Israeli President Isaac Herzog's presentation of his so-called "People's Outline" for judicial reform, billed as a compromise by Herzog but decried as totally one-sided by the coalition, which rejected it outright. The opposition, which declined to participate in talks with Herzog prior to the crafting of the outline (while the coalition sent representatives to speak with the president on dozens of occasions), adopted the outl...
