February 19, 2021 -- Two organizations who work on behalf of supporting Israeli soldiers, Netzach Yehuda Association and Yahad: United for Israel’s Soldiers, recently renovated a synagogue and donated deluxe furnishings for soldiers in the ultra-Orthodox (Haredi) Tomer unit and Givati Brigade soldiers.

A moving opening ceremony was held earlier this week (Wednesday) in the new synagogue, which is located on Givati’s army base in Har Keren in the Negev.  Among those participating in the ceremony were IDF Chief Rabbi, Brigadier General Eyal Karim; Commander of the Givati Brigade, Lt. Col. Ivri Elbaz; Rabbi of the Southern Command Lt. Col. Rabbi David Haimov; Netzach Yehuda Association (Nahal Haredi) CEO Yossi Levy; Javier Rosenfeld, Field Director, Yahad: United for Israel’s Soldiers; and Rabbi Tzvi Klebanow, President of Netzach Yehuda Association. They were joined by representatives of the Haredi military administration, officers and soldiers.

Two new Torah scrolls written especially for Givati’s hachshara soldiers were installed into the synagogue during the ceremony. Chief Rabbi Krim congratulated participants, donors, and Netzach Yehuda rabbis, and delivered a touching address in honor of the synagogue and new Torah scroll dedications.

Adding to Rabbi Krim’s moving words, Netzach Yehuda President Rabbi Rabbi Tzvi Klebanow said: "This exciting event connects exactly with this week’s Torah portion, Parshat Terumah, which states, "And they shall make me a sanctuary, and I will dwell in them. We must remember that in parallel with difficult training exercises, we must pray to G-d that he gives us the determination to be messengers on behalf of the people of Israel.”

“Tomer unit soldiers are an example of a quality, professional company, one that preserves the values they bring from home,” continued Rabbi Kalbanau. “You are an example of how an ultra-Orthodox lifestyle can be combined with the mission to protect our people. "

The ultra-Orthodox Tomer unit of Givati was established in 2014 and operates as part of the Rotem Battalion. The soldiers receive all the necessary provisions that allow them to serve in the IDF while maintaining an ultra-Orthodox lifestyle. The Givati Brigade operates in sectors of Judea and Samaria, Lebanon and Gaza and is at the forefront of the IDF, with a battle legacy dating back to the War of Independence.

The Netzach Yehuda Association attends to the needs of Tomer soldiers throughout the year, providing them with “spiritual armor” and personal guidance, and acts as a bridge for families and communities to harness the soldiers for success.
