Baltimore, MD - Apr. 14, 2024  - (WBAL) Maryland's congressional delegation has introduced the Baltimore BRIDGE Relief Act to ensure federal funds cover the replacement cost of the Francis Scott Key Bridge. Salvage operations continue on the Patapsco River, with more containers being removed. The bill seeks to amend the Federal Highway Administration's cost-share requirement for disaster-damaged highways and bridges. Congressman Kweisi Mfume emphasized the bill's importance in addressing the disaster. Governor Wes Moore has lobbied for full federal funding for the new bridge. Senator Ben Cardin highlighted the need for federal support in rebuilding the bridge for modern needs. The Baltimore BRIDGE Relief Act aims to secure 100% federal funding for the replacement of the bridge and its approaches in Baltimore City, Baltimore County, and Anne Arundel County. Maryland has already received $60 million in Emergency Relief funds.
