Baltimore, MD – Feb. 27, 2022 – This Sunday afternoon, Suburban Orthodox Cong. had the pleasure of hosting the kickoff event for the 2022 season of the Baltimore Chesed League (BCL) for Boys, sponsored by Columbia Group.

For those unfamiliar with BCL, through team camaraderie and an exciting league format, the “Baltimore Chesed League - Boys” aims to provide Jewish boys in our community with opportunities to engage in meaningful “chesed-focused” activities, encourage the development of positive middos, and ultimately, help build caring, empathic, and “mentchlich” individuals.

The 2022 season represents the fifth season of the BCL since its inception. Baruch Hashem, the league has expanded each year, adding more and more boys and with its growth, more opportunities for chesed. The 2022 season includes more than 130 boys, with representation from 7 local day schools.

The boys arrived in the Suburban Orthodox Social Hall promptly at 12:45, and after receiving their team sweatshirts, were immediately treated to a delicious lunch of poppers, hot dogs and blankets, and more, generously sponsored by the Knish Shop.

Once everyone had eaten lunch (and davened mincha), the boys heard riveting words from Suburban Orthodox’s Assistant Rabbi, Rabbi Aryeh Richter, who praised the boys for spending their precious free time on a Sunday, engaging in meaningful chesed activities. He then shared a truly inspiring story of the impact that chesed can have on both their community and themselves.

Following Rabbi Richter’s speech, the boys received some final direction and guidance from the BCL Commissioner, before being sent off on their first chesed activities of the season!

It was an exciting way to kick off the new season!
