Baltimore County, MD - July 27, 2021 - I am delighted to share the news that the Baltimore County Department of Public Works and Transportation has approved a new left turn signal to be added to the northbound only direction of Greenspring Avenue where it meets Smith Avenue. This should greatly enhance safety at this important intersection and for residents in the greater Pikesville area. I want to thank the many residents who have worked with our office to help move this issue forward and push for this improvement.

From Kristoffer Nebre of DPW Transportation: “We have conducted a traffic study at this location and as a result I am pleased to inform you about the conclusions of the study, which is for a [new] left turn signal to be added to the northbound-only direction of Greenspring Avenue. Per the Federal guidelines for the installation of a left turn signal, the criteria was met for this location, and the installation of the left turn signal will be scheduled.

“Please keep in mind that this project will take some time to implement, due to increased parking restrictions that need to be placed along the northbound lane of Greenspring Avenue, to accommodate the new turn lane and fully dedicated thru lane.

Our bureau will schedule and coordinate a signal crew to program and add new lights, along with the road marking crew to lay out the new left turn lane. At this time we anticipate that the new left turn lane will be fully operational within the next few months. This should alleviate traffic queues and facilitate movement at this intersection.
