About the Position

The position is responsible for coordinating the activities program of Aventura at the Heights Assisted Living and Memory Care. Aventura at the heighst ors living with Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia to give them new life and promote well-being and success in our communities. The Activity Director is expected to plan and implement a full activities program for all the residents of the community.

The ideal person for this position has a love for seniors, enjoys entertaining people, and has a strong understanding of caring for aging issues, dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, and associated memory issues.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Activity Program

Develop and implement a schedule of activities to strengthen and enhance the social, physical, spiritual, and mental skills of the residents.
Lead a variety of small and large group resident activities such as: discussion, aromatherapy, arts, crafts, music, exercise, cooking, various games (for mental and physical stimulation), re-motivation, gardening, etc.
Supervise and participate in activities, which include preparations, participation, clean-up, and compliance with safety regulations.
Resident Relations While understanding the Memory Care needs of each resident, initiate motivation of residents to increase their desire to participate in activities.

Handle resident requests for transportation and coordinate rides as necessary.
· Visit new residents to determine interests and abilities and to familiarize the resident with Inspirations Activities.

· Respond to resident needs for assistance, as appropriate.

· Maintain professional confidentiality regarding residents and the community. Team Communication

Coordinate food needs for programming with the chef in a timely manner and within budgeting guidelines.
Notify staff of needs for each event.
Work with the Director to identify at-risk residents in need of social or psychological support.
Administrative Tasks

Create a monthly activity calendar and communicate the activities to residents, families, staff, and other visitors.
Help to maintain well-organized and labeled event decorations and supplies in storage.
Assist in the creation and distribution of the Inspirations Quarterly Newsletter.
Complete all required documentation as directed in a timely manner.
Occasionally oversee staff while the Executive Director is out of the building.
Qualifications:

High School graduate
Experience coordinating programs for seniors
Basic computer skills necessary, including Microsoft Word and publishing software.
Must be able to work flexible hours occasionally.
Must be able to relate to residents, families, customers, and staff in a courteous and diplomatic manner under all circumstances.
