BNEI BRAK (VINnews) — A curious video which went viral Thursday morning shows an Israel Railway inspector allegedly preventing Chareidim from ascending a train at the Bat Yam railway station. The video incensed Chareidi leaders, with MK Eliyahu Chasid even calling for an immediate Knesset discussion of the “blatant discrimination against Chareidim at Bat Yam station.”

However Israel Railways were quick to deny the incident, claiming that the inspector was not employed by them or by their subsidiaries.

In the end it was the Bnei Brak municipality which solved the mystery, stating that they had sent an actor to the train station to demonstrate over the discrimination of the local railway company which is building a Metro bypassing Bnei Brak and not providing transport solutions for the 200,000-member town. The municipality stressed that in contrast, “Israel Railways does not discriminate against Chareidim.”

The advertising ploy certainly caught public attention, with Transport Minister Miri Regev stating before the truth was known that she was “shocked by the video from Israel Railways” and that after investigation they said that it was an “imposter not employed by the railway company who entered the train station and was later detained by police.”
