On Tuesday night, the Baltimore County Board of Education is expected to give final approval on the school calendar for the next school year.

With Labor Day set for Sept. 7, the latest it could possibly be, the school board is considering two calendars, one that would start a week before Labor Day on Aug. 31 and another starting the day after Labor Day on Sept. 8.

The calendar with the pre-Labor Day start has a 10-day spring break and would end classes on June 18, unless days need to be made up due to snow days.

The calendar with the post-Labor Day start has a five-day spring break and would end the school year on June 22.

Earlier this year, state lawmakers repealed an order by Gov. Larry Hogan that banned schools from starting classes before Labor Day, leaving the local school boards to decide when to start classes.

The meeting is set for 6:30 p.m. at the school system's headquarters in Towson.
