Baltimore, MD - Mar. 10, 2026 - A Baltimore police officer was shot, along with the suspect on Tuesday in Northwest Baltimore.
WBAL-TV 11 News has learned that officers were in the 6200 block of Park Heights Avenue, where a person fired shots from a window and an officer was struck.
Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley said during a news conference BPD received a burglary call shortly before noon. Officers arrived and were met with gunfire from the suspect inside a home.
Officers took cover, and one officer was struck in the leg, Worley said. The bunker team applied a tourniquet and took the officer to Shock Trauma.
"We admitted a Baltimore City police officer with a gunshot wound to the leg. Kudos to his buddy for having the wherewithal to put a tourniquet on him at the scene. I'm happy to say he's awake, he's stable and currently undergoing evaluation," said Dr. Thomas Scalea, physician-in-chief at Shock Trauma.
Officials said a woman who was trying to flee jumped out the window and was taken to a hospital. The woman is a family member of the suspect.
SWAT officers arrived and a sniper fatally shot the suspect. A firearm was recovered at the scene.
According to police, one of the officers were transported to Shock Trauma while the other suffered a non-life threatening wound.
Worley said the suspect appeared at the window multiple times with a gun pointed at the victim's head.
The officer shot in the leg is 36 years old, a 13-year BPD veteran.
"We're just so thankful that the officer or any other folks in the neighborhood were not severely harmed. Our thoughts are with him and his family and even the family of the deceased," Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott said. "We're thankful to our BPD officers for bravely responding in the way that they did today and that they do each and every day and being able to get the situation under control quickly."
Police are asking the public to avoid the area.
In a social media post, Maryland Gov. Wes Moore said:
"I have been briefed on the shooting in Park Heights involving a Baltimore Police Officer. Dawn and I are praying for their recovery and keeping everyone affected by this tragedy in our thoughts.
"We have been in close contact with the Baltimore Police Department and I have offered any state support that they may need.
"I am grateful for the work done by our brave law enforcement officers and medical professionals to ensure that our communities are safe."
