Jerusalem, Israel - Mar. 3, 2026 - Chaim V’Chessed continues to serve the public during this challenging time and is receiving a wide variety of inquiries. Here are a number of updates on different fronts:
Visa Extensions
Many foreign citizens in Israel hold visas that are crucial for access to Bituach Leumi and other benefits, and for being officially recognized as residents. With the Interior Ministry currently closed, it has not been to extend these visas. In response, the Interior Ministry has announced a sweeping visa extension: any visas that expired between February 26th and March 31st will automatically be extended by three months. This applies to all A-class visas, (temporary resident and student visas) as well as B1 and B2 visas (tourist visas).
Chaim V’Chessed has coordinated with Bituach Leumi officials to ensure that Bituach Leumi benefits for those whose visas have expired will be automatically extended.
Repatriation Flights
As previously reported, the Israel Airports Authority had announced plans to begin repatriation flights bringing Israelis back to the country starting Monday. However, these flights have not yet materialized. Chaim V’Chessed has learned that the flights are now delayed until at least the end of the week. We will provide updates as soon as further details are available.
Tourists Stranded in Israel
The Ministry of Tourism is encouraging tourists who are currently in Israel due to the conflict to register their information at this link. While specific benefits for registering are not yet clear, doing so may provide access to assistance if needed.
U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem Remains Closed
Following attacks on U.S. embassies and consulates worldwide, the U.S. State Department has ordered the Embassy in Jerusalem to remain closed due to security threats. Chaim V’Chessed is in close contact with embassy officials and will update the public immediately if the situation changes.
Exit Routes from Israel
At this time, no new routes have opened for people seeking to leave Israel. As previously reported, the only viable option remains traveling through Egypt. Thousands of people have been using this route, leading to a chaotic scene at the Taba border crossing. Despite the congestion, many have successfully departed, and currently there are no alternative exit options.
