Baltimore, MD - Jan. 28, 2026 - For the third year in a row, Rabbi Dovid Heber entertained the Yeshivas Toras Simcha students with stories from the frontline of kashrus supervision. Rabbi Heber shared with the students a story about Grape Nuts cereal. Rabbi Dovid Heber's brother was working in the marketing department at Post Cereals.
Rabbi Yossi Heber convinced the company executive team to produce a children's pamphlet with fun exercises and a list of the appropriate brachos on the cereals that Post manufactures. Rabbi Yossi Heber asked his brother Rabbi Dovid Heber to review the pamphlet before it went to print. This necessitated research into the proper bracha for Grape Nuts, which although it is made from hardened bread, nevertheless requires the mezonos bracha. Then, students in grades 3-8 participated in a Brachos Bee which tested whether they know the proper bracha for a variety of foods, not only cereals.
