Sirens sounded across Israel on Friday evening as Iran launched several barrages of missiles towards the Jewish state, in what the Revolutionary Guards said was retaliation for Israel’s Operation Rising Lion against Iranian military officials and nuclear facilities.

Despite earlier reports of more than 200 missiles having been fired, IDF Spokesperson Effie Defrin said that less than 100 missiles were fired towards Israel from Iran and that the majority of them were intercepted.

An Israeli official said the US assisted Israel with the interceptions.

The sirens were heard from the Galilee region in northern Israel to Be’er Sheva in the south.

Explosions were heard in central Israel, as a building was directly hit by a missile. Footage from the scene showed extensive damage to the building.

Fire and Rescue Services said that fire and rescue teams are handling two major incidents in the Gush Dan area.

In one location, firefighters are operating at a scene of structural destruction between several buildings. Crews are working to rescue two trapped individuals and extinguish the fire.

In a second incident in the Dan region, firefighters are responding to a heavily damaged high-rise building. Extensive destruction was reported at the site. Search-and-rescue operations are underway with the assistance of the elite Lahav unit, specializing in complex rescues.

In northern Israel, a projectile fragment struck a residential building. Fire crews are en route to the scene.

Also in the north, firefighters are battling a brush fire caused by falling debris from missile fire.

Authorities urged the public to follow Home Front Command instructions and to call the emergency fire services at 102 in case of danger.

Magen David Adom (MDA) reported that 41 people were injured in the various areas, including two in critical condition, two in moderate condition, four in light-to-moderate condition and 33 in light condition or suffering from anxiety.

The injured people were evacuated to Beilinson, Ichilov and Sheba Hospitals.

At 10:15 p.m., the Home Front Command said civilians can leave shelters, but should remain nearby them until further notice.

The IDF called on civilians not to publish and share the locations and footage of hits. “The enemy monitors this footage to improve its impact capabilities. Be responsible - Do not share locations online!” it stated.

The sirens came minutes after the Home Front Command issued an emergency alert to civilians, warning that sirens are expected in the coming minutes across Israel and instructing them to enter shelters.
