Baltimore, MD - Sept. 24, 2024  - Ten Maryland schools were selected by the U.S. Department of Education as National Blue Ribbon Schools.

This title is awarded to schools that excel in academic performance or make significant strides in closing achievement gaps among different student groups.

“The National Blue Ribbon Schools Award is a testament to the exceptional achievements of students and educators at each of these schools,” said U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona in a press statement.

“The 2024 National Blue Ribbon Schools are raising the bar for our nation’s students, serving as models for effective teaching and intentional collaboration in their schools and communities. As we celebrate their achievements, let us look to these schools for inspiration as we champion education as the foundation of a brighter future for every child," added Cardona.

The 2024 National Blue Ribbon Schools cohort includes 356 schools. The Maryland schools awarded this prestigious recognition were:

Annapolis – St. Mary Elementary School, Archdiocese of Baltimore.

Cockeysville – St. Joseph School Cockeysville, Archdiocese of Baltimore.

Ellicott City – Our Lady Of Perpetual Help School, Archdiocese of Baltimore.

Ellicott City – Worthington Elementary School, Howard County Public Schools.

Perry Hall – Chapel Hill Elementary School, Baltimore County Public Schools.

Potomac – Bells Mill Elementary School, Montgomery County Public Schools.

Severna Park – Saint John the Evangelist School, Archdiocese of Baltimore.

After schools submit a comprehensive application, The Department evaluates student performance data including assessment results, student subgroup performance and graduation rates.

National Blue Ribbon schools are recognized in both or either of two performance categories, Exemplary High Performing Schools, which are top performers in their state as measured by state assessments or nationally normed tests, and Exemplary Achievement Gap Closing Schools, which have successfully narrowed achievement gaps between different student groups.
