Robberies Surge 17.5% In Baltimore, With Juvenile Robberies Increasing By 187.5%

Baltimore, MD - May 4, 2024  - According to data released by Baltimore Police at last month's Public Safety Hearing at City Hall, robberies are up 17.5 percent year to date.

The increase largely in part to robberies committed by juveniles, which is up 187.5 percent from this time last year.

Seven of the nine districts in Baltimore City saw an increase in robberies over a 28-day period, according to BPD data.

The Central District, which includes downtown, saw a 25 percent increase during that time frame.

On Thursday morning, just after 2:30, a couple who were visiting the city for the O's game, was robbed and assaulted by close to 20 juveniles.

Police arrested six females, five of which were sent home to their parents. The other was 18 years old.

Mayoral candidate Sheila Dixon appeared on Fox45 Morning News this week.

"In 221 communities out of 278, crime has gone up," said Dixon.
