On Monday, February 5, the US Embassy will hold a special event for US citizens at Chaim V’Chessed offices. At this event, parents of newborn babies will be able to apply for Consular Reports of Birth Abroad (CRBA) and first-time US passports for their children. Within hours of Chaim V’Chessed publicizing this event, all available slots were snapped up.

However, on the sidelines of the newborn event, another useful service will be available, as well. A Drop Box will be available for adult passport renewals and some emergency passport exchanges.

First time adult passports applications may not be submitted to the Drop Box. Emergency passports which can be renewed are only those which were issued less than 12 months ago and do not have an endorsement on page 11 stating “A full validity passport must be approved by the Department of State” .

Please see here for detailed information on renewing an adult passport and here for detailed information on exchanging an emergency passport.

The Drop Box will be stationed at Chaim V’Chessed offices, located in Rad Tower, 16 Hartom St. in Har Chotzvim, Jerusalem. It will operate between 3:00 and 5:00 PM, on Monday February 5. Passports are expected to be delivered to the address noted on the pre-paid Israel Post return label within 4-5 weeks, though Chaim V’Chessed cannot guarantee this timeframe.
