Baltimore, MD – Dec. 27, 2023 – Baltimore City Police have announced that they have seized over 2,700 guns in 2023, marking an increase from the 2,506 guns seized in 2022, according to WMAR2News. Mayor Brandon Scott emphasized their commitment to focus on gun-related issues, including removing guns from the streets and holding those involved in violence accountable. While homicides are down by approximately 21% year over year, the city's efforts to reduce gun violence have involved various strategies, such as peace walks, violence prevention groups, and ceasefire weekends. If current trends continue, Baltimore could have fewer than 300 homicides this year, a level not seen in nearly a decade, although the majority of homicides still involve firearms.
