Jerusalem, Israel - October 2023:
The Jews of Sderot need your help!
My name is Marsha Grant. I made Aliyah from Baltimore 7 years ago. I live in the Maalot Dafna section of Jerusalem, just a 10-minute walk away from three large hotels. These hotels are FULL of 2000 displaced Jewish people from the southern communities near Gaza, mostly from Sderot. These people were told to pack 3 days' worth of clothing and supplies before they were evacuated here. They have been here for 2 weeks, and no one knows how long they will need to stay.
These are families with small children. One family I met has a 3-week-old baby. There are small children, teenagers, parents, and grandparents. Maalot Dafna, where I live, is mostly an American area, and it is close to several other mostly American areas – Ramat Eshkol, Arzei HaBira, and Sanhedria HaMurhevet. People from these areas are working hard to try to meet the needs of the families in the hotels. We have a volunteer laundry project where their laundry is collected. Volunteers pick up bags of laundry from collection points, take them home, wash them, dry them, fold them, and return them to the collection site. Clothes are collected, sorted, and organized, and a "store" has been set up in one of the hotels for them to get clothing, free of charge.
Jerusalem's weather is colder than what they are used to, and many of them don’t have the clothes they need for the climate here. Winter is coming. They need baby bottles, diapers, pacifiers, shampoo, deodorant, sippy cups, diaper rash cream, among other things, and we are trying to meet all their needs.
All of this is being done by grassroots efforts of local people, but we need money. Money to buy supplies, money to buy bins to store clothes in the "store." No, it's not as glamorous as armored vests and helmets, and those things are important too. But we need help taking care of these families. Someone has to do it. I have not had time to set up any fancy donation page, and I cannot give you a tax receipt. This is just an effort of frum women who saw the suffering of Jewish families and stepped up to the plate to help. Anything you can give will go DIRECTLY to the support of these families, and I will be happy to tell you EXACTLY how every penny is spent. There is NO overhead here. We are all volunteers helping Klal Yisrael.
You can donate to my PayPal account – marshachoice@icloud.com.
I hope to set up something better, but for now, this is what I have.
I thank you in advance for your support!
May Hashem bless you that you will always be on the giving end and never on the receiving end.
