Israel Agrees to Delay Invasion of Gaza

Israel agreed to a request from the U.S. to get its air defenses in place to protect U.S. troops in the region ahead of an expected ground incursion into Gaza.

Fighting: Israel said it beat back an incursion by Hamas militants by sea into Israeli territory just north of Gaza. Israeli jet fighters struck a military installation the militants came from.

Humanitarian crisis: Eight out of the 20 aid trucks that were scheduled to enter Gaza were delivered after severe delays.

Hezbollah: The leader of the Iran-backed militant group met top officials from Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad.

Hostages: A Hamas hostage said she went through hell and said she shook the hand of one of her captors because they treated her “with softness and supplied all our needs.”

Casualties: Hamas officials said the Palestinian death toll in Gaza was above 6,500. The figure couldn't be independently verified. More than 1,400 people in Israel died in the Hamas attack that sparked the war; over 300 in the Israel Defense Forces have been killed in the Oct. 7 attack and since, the IDF said.
