Baltimore, MD - Aug. 10, 2023 - Baltimore Gas & Electric (BGE) is proposing a rate increase over the next three years to replace aging infrastructure, requiring approval from the Maryland Public Service Commission (PSC). A small group recently gave public comments virtually, and another hearing is scheduled for August 23. Those interested in commenting can email kimberly.schock@maryland.gov by August 21. You can also submit a written comment. The proposed increase would mean an average uptick of roughly $10 monthly for residential electric and gas customers. The plan is opposed by groups like AARP Maryland, and the Baltimore City Council passed a resolution urging the PSC not to approve the increase. If approved, BGE would take in an estimated $600 million over three years from the hike, according to the state PSC.
