Palestinian Authority (PA) Prisoners' Affairs Minister Qadri Abu Bakr was killed yesterday (Saturday) in a car collision in Samaria.

In an unprecedented move, it was decided to close Highway 5 to traffic to make way for the funeral procession. This is the first time Israeli traffic has been closed off for the funeral of a PA official. 50 PA policemen and security personnel will escort the funeral procession to the cemetery.

The residents of Samaria were surprised by the announcement, which also poses a danger to their security as the Palestinian Authority is being allowed to hold a large event in Area C near Jewish communities.

Samaria Regional Council chairman Yossi Dagan was outraged at the decision to allow such an event within the council's territory, and all this when the security body that will manage it is the Palestinian police. Dagan pointed out that Abu Bakr served 17 years in prison for terrorism, was exiled to Iraq and returned during the Oslo Accords, and devoted his life to inciting and financially supporting terrorists.

"This is Oslo on steroids! This is a disgrace and utter lawlessness. I demand to know who gave the order, who endangered the safety of the residents on a main road, and who made the decision to harm the sovereignty of the State of Israel in central Samaria. I also don't understand why someone like Abu Bakr is receiving such treatment. This is a man who was a terrorist who spent 17 years in prison, was exiled to Iraq, was returned in the Oslo Accords, and also in his last position he was the Acting Minister for Terrorist Affairs and Murderers who took care of their salaries and incited terrorism."
