Baltimore, MD - May 25, 2023  - On Tuesday, May 23, Sinai Hospital of Baltimore broke ground on a new three-story, 125,000 square foot cancer building. This state-of-the-art facility, designed with the comfort of cancer patients in mind, will unify all outpatient cancer services for both adults and children.

The building, named the Mandy and Dennis Weinman Cancer Building in recognition of the local couple who donated $5 million towards the project, will be situated along Greenspring Avenue. The facility will feature 32 adult infusion bays, 16 adult exam spaces, seven pediatric infusion bays, six pediatric exam rooms, renovated radiation oncology suites, as well as other spaces to support services.

This transformative project was developed with considerable input from patients, families, and adult and pediatric advisory groups. Multidisciplinary teams of healthcare providers and staff invested hundreds of hours to ensure that this facility meets the needs of caregivers, patients, and their families, both present and future.

The design of the building includes an abundance of natural light. In addition to treatment areas and exam rooms, there will be spaces designed for patients and visitors, such as a living room, workspace for visitors, an art therapy space, a playroom, and more. The adult infusion area on the third floor will provide patients with a view of the nearby Cylburn Arboretum.

Caregivers from both adult and pediatric oncology care teams celebrated the groundbreaking of the new building. Construction is projected to take approximately two-and-a-half years.

The new building also signifies an investment in and expansion of cancer services at Sinai. This includes the recruitment of additional subspecialty oncologists and a heightened focus on research.
