Overnight Road Closures On I-95/I-695 In Baltimore County Begins Nov. 28th

The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration says they will begin shifting traffic lanes and installing work zone traffic barriers at the I-95/I-695 interchange in Arbutus, Baltimore County on Monday, November 28.

The road work will help prepare for the rehabilitation of 10 bridges within the interchange.

MDOT officials say the work is expected to be completed by December 1.

The overnight lane and ramp closures are scheduled as follows:

Monday Night, November 28

Motorists can expect single-lane closures in Arbutus on southbound I-95 at I-695 beginning at 7 p.m., then a double-lane closure at 9 p.m., and a triple lane closure at midnight until 5 a.m. the next day. MDOT SHA will also close the ramp from southbound I-95 to the outer loop of I-695 (eastbound) from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. the next day. Motorists will be detoured to southbound Caton Avenue to southbound US 1 Alternate (Washington Boulevard) and continue to to a left-turn at traffic signal to the ramp back to eastbound I-695.

Tuesday Night, November 29

There will be a single-lane closure on southbound I-95 at I-695 beginning at 7 p.m., then a double-lane closure at 9 p.m., until 5 a.m. the next day to install temporary barrier. The ramp from northbound I-95 to the outer loop of I-695 will be closed beginning at 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the next day. Motorists will be detoured to northbound I-95 to northbound Caton Avenue and to a left-turn ramp to southbound I-95. Motorists will then proceed southbound I-95 to a left exit ramp to eastbound I-695 (Outer Loop) to Glen Burnie.

Wednesday night, November 30

There will be a single-lane closure in both directions of I-95 at I-695 beginning at 7 p.m., then a double-lane closure at 9 p.m., and a triple-lane closure at midnight until 5 a.m. the next day. The ramp from northbound I-95 to eastbound I-695 (Outer Loop) will be closed from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the next day. Motorists will be directed to northbound Caton Avenue to the left-turn ramp to southbound I-95 and then proceed southbound I-95 back to the outer loop of I-695 toward Glen Burnie.

Thursday Night, December 1

There will be a single-lane closure on northbound I-95 beginning at 7 p.m., then a double-lane closure at 9 p.m., and a triple-lane closure at midnight until 5 a.m. the next day.

During the work, motorists are encouraged to plan for extra travel time and consider alternate routes. Crews will use digital message boards, temporary signs, and barrels to direct drivers safely through the nighttime work zone.

The main project includes the installation of new riding surfaces on 10 bridges within the I-95 / I-695 interchange and the replacement of concrete traffic barriers and parapets.
