Baltimore, MD - Nov. 1, 2022 - In honor of their outstanding leadership in the Jewish community, Chavi Abramson and Eugene Poverni were presented with The Fred Walpert Young Leadership Award from The Associated: Jewish Federation of Baltimore. The Fred Walpert Young Leadership Award, presented annually, recognizes two growing young leaders based on their involvement and effective leadership within The Associated community.
A Baltimore native with a passion for affecting positive change and recognized for her passion and loyalty, Chavi Abramson has fast established herself as an up-and-coming talented young leader in our community. Devoted to the educational field for nearly 15 years, Chavi demonstrated a unique and sensitive understanding of her students, nurturing hundreds of children in her classrooms at Yeshivat Rambam and Ohr Chadash Academy and was the recipient of the ABC2 Mecu Teacher of the Month in 2016.
In 2021, Chavi completed The Associated’s Young Leadership Council (YLC) program, during which she participated in the newly formed Na’aleh: The Hub for Leadership Learning, an agency of The Associated. She now serves as a member of Na’aleh’s board. Chavi is serving as co-chair of the current YLC class and is a member of the IMPACT board as well as The Associated Board of Directors. She is also the co-chair of the 4th annual Shoshana S. Cardin Symposium.
Watch Chavi, as she rides along in a Mini Cooper Clubman with Yanky Schorr and listen to their wide-ranging conversation about her career as a middle school teacher, her volunteer work through The Associated and some personal favorites.
