Baltimore, MD - Feb. 22, 2022 - Each year the Maryland Senate gather in the Old Senate Chamber to mark President George Washington's birthday. It was in the Old Senate Chamber President Washington resigned as Commander-in-Chief in 1783, and where Congress ratified the Treaty of Paris ending the Revolutionary War.
Rabbi Yechiel Shaffer, Rav of Pikesville Jewish Center, (corner Carla & Lightfoot) opened the evening by offering an invocation in which he shared the idea of praying the same words each day, every day as an anchor in life, like coming to the same place each day to pray. He also invoked the words President Washington shared with the Jewish community of Rhode Island promising their safety and good will. The keynote speaker of the evening was the outgoing President of the University of Maryland-Baltimore county, President Freeman Hrawbowski.
