Baltimore, MD - Nov. 10, 2021:
Dear Johns Hopkins Friends and Colleagues,
Please join me in welcoming the newest member of our Spiritual Care team at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, Rabbi Naftoli Rabinowitz. Following in the great footsteps of Rabbi Tsvi Schur, who recently retired, we are exceptionally excited to announce this news, as he will serve as our hospital’s next Jewish Chaplain.
Rabbi Rabinowitz is recognized by Ner Israel (Baltimore) as a functioning Healthcare Rabbi serving patients, their families, and our many hospital employees. He will be the Jewish Chaplain for all people of the Jewish faith and will aid in of the supportive work of Kosher food, our Jewish volunteers, and the many Jewish holidays and observances. In addition, he will also serve as an interfaith chaplain to other areas of the hospital.
Before this position, Rabbi Rabinowitz completed an internship and a year-long residency through the Johns Hopkins Academic Medicine Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) Program, completing training at both JHBMC and JHH. Previously, he offered spiritual support and counseling in various non-profit settings including the Levedale Geriatric Center, Bikur Cholim, and for many youth camps.
In addition to his six units of CPE training, Rabbi Rabinowitz has a Master’s Degree in Torah Law from Ner Israel Rabbinical College, Baltimore, MD. And while he is fluent in English, Yiddish, and Hebrew, it is his compassionate approach and great appreciation of the difficulties of being in the hospital that have us all most impressed.
Again, please join me in welcoming our new JHH Jewish Chaplain: Rabbi Naftoli Rabinowitz!
Very Sincerely,
Ty Crowe
Director, Department of Spiritual Care and Chaplaincy
