Baltimore, MD - Sept. 23, 2021 - 1st Day Chol HaMoaid Sukkos 5782 - Baltimore City Mayor Brandon Scott joined Councilman Yitzy Schleifer today in celebration of Sukkos. Joining the festive gathering in the Councilman’s Sukkah were elected officials, Delegate Dalya Attar (41-D), and City Councilman Zeke Cohen (1-D), along with Rabbi Dovid Heber, of  Congregation Khal Ahavas Yisroel Tzemach Tzedek, and other prominent community leaders. Mayor Scott listened intently as Rabbi Heber explained the meaning of the Sukkah, Lulav and Esrog and the holiday in general. Rabbi Heber expressed gratitude for the work the Mayor does on behalf of our community and focused his comments on the unique joy felt by our community during Sukkos.

While spending time in the Sukkah, Mayor Scott spoke candidly about both the challenges and progress being made in Baltimore City. The Mayor explained his perspective on governance, by analogizing repairs to a skyscraper, “when they renovated the Empire State Building, they didn’t start at the top of the building or on external portions, but with the foundation.” The Mayor explained, that with a solid foundation Baltimore City can make progress and grow.

Also joining in the event was security consultant and community activist Frank Storch who expressed his gratitude to Mayor Scott for the security enhancements during this period on the Jewish calendar and how much of an impact it makes on the community’s over all safety preparedness.

Community advocate, Nathan Willner, specifically acknowledged the increased security initiatives put in place during the Yomim Nora'im and Sukkos, “enhanced law enforcement coverage during the Jewish holidays offers both deterrence and community confidence. Our community recognizes the close relationship the Mayor and Councilman Schleifer have. When we see City Hall understand the rhythm of our neighborhoods, we know that we are not alone. We do not take the  Mayor or Councilman Schleifer’s engagement for granted and could not be more grateful.”
