Veteran diplomat and brother of Israel's President Isaac Herzog spent 40 years in the Israeli military
Israel’s next ambassador to the United States will be the retired general and veteran diplomat Michael Herzog, Prime Minister Naftali Bennett announced on Friday.
The elder brother of Israel's President Isaac Herzog, he spent 40 years in the Israel Defense Forces and took part in diplomatic negotiations under five prime ministers, the statement read.
It additionally cited Herzog's Herzog's “years-long experience in the fields of security and diplomacy, his deep familiarity with the strategic challenges Israel faces, foremost among them the threat posed by Iran's nuclear program.”
The appointment of Herzog, 69, will soon be brought to the ministerial cabinet for approval.
In recent years Herzog was a fellow at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy and at the Jewish People Policy Institute.
