Israeli military relied extensively on drone technology during May's conflict with Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip
The Israeli Air Force (IAF) on Thursday completed the first international drone-focused military exercise ever held with aviation teams from five other countries.
The two-week event, dubbed "Blue Guardian," featured manned and remotely controlled aircraft launching from the Palmachim airbase in central Israel with the IAF joined by air forces from the United States, France, Italy, Germany and the United Kingdom.
In the first week of the drill, the foreign teams learned to operate and conduct basic missions with Israeli drones, including the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) Hermes 450, manufactured by Elbit Systems. In the second week, the pilots undertook more complicated flight scenarios, including the use of other IAF military equipment and aircraft.
Approximately 20 representatives from other countries observed the drill.
