Jerusalem, Israel - July 16, 2021 - A delegation of foreign ambassadors to the United States and United Nations began a week-long visit in Israel, on Friday, July 16, 2021, with tours in Jerusalem, in the Old City. Diplomats and spouses are from Australia, Argentina, Bhutan, Czech Republic, Dominican Republic, Hungary, Kenya, Guatemala, Ukraine, and Tonga. The international delegation is led by Israeli Ambassador Gilad Erdan and sponsored by The American Zionist Movement (AZM).
The diplomats will visit Israel’s Northern and Southern borders and communities, see Hamas and Hezbollah terror tunnels, and receive security briefings. Also, they will visit historical and religious sites, hi-tech centers and meet with senior Israel government officials. On Tisha B’Av they will participate in a special Holocaust Remembrance program at Yad Vashem, arranged by International March of The Living, which is a co-sponsor of the delegation.
"Jerusalem is the center of the world and the eternal capital of the Jewish people," Director of Aish Israel Rabbi Eitel Goldwicht told the group seated on the roof with its panoramic view before lunch to be served inside away from the midday sun.
From the roof of the Dan Family Aish World Center, Erdan ended his remarks on the significance of Jerusalem.
President of AZM, Deborah Isaac, added: “It is our sincere pleasure to sponsor this diplomatic visit in partnership with Ambassador Erdan. We hope that the participants will come away from the experience with a deeper and more realistic perspective of Israel and the threats it faces, as well as an appreciation for the rich and diverse culture of the State of Israel.”
