All arrivals at border crossings must quarantine for a day or until they receive negative PCR test results
The Israeli Health Ministry on Friday announced that all visitors arriving to Israel must self-isolate for a period of up to 24 hours or until they receive negative results from the PCR test taken at the border crossing -- whichever comes first.
The new rule goes into effect on July 16 and applies to everyone, including vaccinated individuals and those who have recovered from the coronavirus.
Israel has seen an increase in the number of daily infections in recent weeks due to the spread of the highly contagious delta variant brought into the country from abroad, although severe cases have only increased slightly and few deaths have been recorded.
Israel on Thursday registered two deaths from complications of COVID-19, the first coronavirus fatalities recorded in the Jewish state for over two weeks.
A total of 450 new daily cases were reported as of Friday morning, according to the ministry's coronavirus database.
The number of patients in serious or critical condition stood at 39 with 16 people in critical condition and 12 on respirators.
